Social Venture Builder

Accra, Ghana

We are looking for an entrepreneurial young professional to help build the business for our innovative environmentally sustainable toilet systems, making them accessible and desirable for millions of inhabitants in low-income urban communities. If you want to work where business and development meet and are ready to work from Accra for a few months, apply!

About us

Impacc is an international social business NGO that creates green jobs for poor people in bottom of pyramid communities. We build and scale businesses where markets don’t yet work for the poorest. We find innovative business models that have the potential to create local, green jobs, often with a franchise approach. These businesses wouldn’t be able to compete on the open market because of market barriers such as lack of skills, social norms, conflict, etc. That’s why we combine aid with revenue generation where markets fail to meet basic human needs.

With our latest venture WASHKing, we are still in the onboarding phase. So we want to send you to Accra to support us in the due diligence and investment process. We are trying to make sure we understand all aspects of the business in terms of past operations, strategies, branding, networks and finances. WASHKing is a Ghanaian social sanitation enterprise providing low-income and underserved communities with access to sustainable sanitation products at an affordable price. Through the professional workforce and network of partners, WASHKing produces, supplies and installs accessible and decent biodigester toilets out of eco-friendly materials for low-income urban households and institutions to improve health and economic conditions. The technology treats faecal matter on-site and does not require piping the waste off-site for treatment. The treated waste serves as manure and water for agricultural use, creating additional value for customers and for the environment.

Your Role

You will play a key role in driving WASHKing forward: seconded by Impacc, you act as an advisor and assistant for the Ghanian CEO, you support the operational implementation of production, sales and general company management. You will liaise with our German team to conduct the due diligence and facilitate the investment, run donation campaigns and support us building the general infrastructure to scale-up ventures in Bottom of Pyramid markets in Africa.

Specifically, you will:

  • Create clarity on business model and scale-up options
  • Gain more insights on the company’s operations, business model, customers and financial situation
  • Support the development of scale-up options for the Impacc gGmbH investment
  • Finalise the write-up for the submission of two funding proposals to donors
