Agriculture is the backbone of many African economies, employing approximately 60% of the continent’s labor force and contributing about 23% to the GDP, yet millions of smallholder farmers face significant hurdles. With 97% relying on rain-fed agriculture and having limited access to irrigation, modern farming techniques, and market opportunities, their potential remains constrained. Climate change further exacerbates these challenges, threatening food security and economic stability. Empowering smallholder farmers—who make up 80% of all farms in Africa—is essential for maximizing productivity and building resilience against climate change impacts.
Irri-Hub is building a resilient farming community with a focus on affordable irrigation, comprehensive support, and market access that empowers farmers to achieve their full potential. One of their standout features is its integration of IoT hardware, sensors, and a cloud platform for precision farming, significantly enhancing high-value crop yields. This system enables real-time crop monitoring through a user-friendly dashboard accessible via mobile, web, or USSD services. By analyzing farm-level data, Irri-Hub predicts optimal growth conditions and provides timely notifications based on micro and macro climatic conditions, sub-soil parameters, solar exposure, and crop growth stages, reducing crop failure risks by 90%. This comprehensive approach empowers farmers to make informed decisions.
